In the popular gaming franchise Super Mario Bros., 1-Up Mushrooms can be found across the land in hidden blocks, hiding in grass, or even carried by enemies. When collected, the player is given an extra-life: once they die, they have another chance to continue. The color-scheme of the one in Animal Crossing: New Leaf was first popularized by the game Super Mario World, though the model used is probably from the New Super Mario Bros. games.
